an homage to cannonball adderley
Hello homies! Thank you so much for clicking on this month’s blog post. I have been unusually busy over this last summer! I can finally show you some of the secret things I have been working on. Let’s get into it!
To start, I was recently asked to photograph some old friends at a small show. The Hemsworth Brothers are a duo, they are both great at playing the guitar and singing! Inside a classy little downtown bar they played songs from artists like The Lumineers, Cage The Elephant, and Noah Kahan. They also played some original material!
Taking photos at show, big or small is always fun, and it was special reconnecting with some homies. I imagine when I find the time here soon I will make some flip book animations with some of the extra pictures. Maybe one day they will hit me up again for an album project or something of the sort. That would be super fun. Below I will leave one of my favorite photos of the night, huge shoutout to The Hemsworth Brothers.
I am realizing now that everything I have prepared to write about today is music related. The second project is one I have been talking about for a long time but haven’t been able to show you directly.
Localsfest is a music festival located in Central Florida. It has only existed for a couple of years now, but this year they hit me up to redesign their entire digital identity. Not only a logo, but a mascot, social media posts, the main poster for print, plus some other fun stuff. A dream project for someone like me!
As of this evening, we have finished up the main poster for social media. Announcing all the artists which is super exciting! I hope your eyes enjoy looking at it, and I hope it makes you consider attending! I stressed out about every pixel on here. It was an especially fun mixed media process, featuring illustration, custom typography, and some really fun 70s inspired graphic design.
Lastly, in my previous blog post I showed you some design work I had finished for the city of Burlington and the jazz festival they host annually. That work specifically was for the cover photo on the facebook event page.
Now, the full poster has been designed, printed, and is currently in the process of being hung up all over southeast Iowa! I hung up the first one in my local Starbucks that I visit way too often. Inspired directly by Cannonball Adderley's Blue Note record “Somethin’ Else”, I am so unbelievably stoked on the end result. It feels really cool to see my art hanging up all over my local area, and working with the people I have has been a wonderful opportunity.
