Skateboarding, Logos & A Poem About Frogs

Hi! So good to see you again! So many cool things have happened since we last caught up! The first being I went to a skateboarding competition in Des Moines. I have a project I am working on currently, one that has been on my mind for a long time. Now I am getting ready to start that project, and I thought the best way to get my feet wet and feel inspired was to attend a skate competition. I have thousands of photos now, met so many cool people, and was inspired by so many incredible skateboarders. It was a great place to start! More on that to come in next month’s blog, for now I will leave you with a graphic I made for my local skate shop featuring a competitor I had the pleasure of photographing!

The second fun thing that has happened recently is the re branding of Wilson Street Productions, the digital media business that me and my wife both freelance out of. I made the original logo when I was first stepping into graphic design, and it was certainly time to revisit it. This will eventually have it’s own page in my portfolio section of my website, showing the inspiration and visual references. For now you just have to trust me that I directly used the actual Wilson Street sign in the logo. This is the street me and my now wife met on. There are a few references here and there throughout the logo. We have already ordered our new business cards which is exciting, but we are also having new merchandise being made, and models willing to let me take photos of them wearing it. Once those photos are all edited and good to go, that is when I will be adding the branding to my home page! For now, you can check out the logo below. I hope you like it! Hopefully it is never something I feel I have to revisit hahahaha.

I have several projects that are happening behind the scenes, and I can’t show or talk about them much yet. I am writing this much earlier in the month than usual, and that is because I have a very busy schedule ahead! So, to make up for a shorter blog entry I wrote a poem about magical frogs. Which I will leave below. One day I will defiantly illustrate a piece to it. Or maybe make a comic. Or a children’s book. Thank you so much for giving this a read. I appreciate you!

Hello my friend, I hope you’re fine

Though life’s been strange on this end of the line

Forgive the silence - it’s been a spell

But I have had oddities I’ve had to quell

A troupe of frogs, yes magic no joke

Invaded my apartment, uninvited blokes

My gold vanished, then my phone

Then a grand piano I’d once owned

When warmth returned, I left my den

To hunt my treasure down again

I trekked to where the wild trees creep

Beyond the yard where shadows sleep

There beneath a mossy stone

The frogs had made the thefts their own

They danced and laughed, full of flair

In leafy hats and spring air

I took some items with sneaky grace

But left the piano in its place

For every night, its lullaby

Now floats beneath the moonlit sky

I now drift to sleep with gentle keys

Played by froggy prodigies

Just one last note, before I am gone

Beware the frogs - you’re not alone
